The prospect of scaling the side of the cradle from the water must be truly daunting. I wager we’re seeing every riverman with 90+% Swim and 90+% Climb within 20 kilometers of Pavis in that first panel…

Skill 50 and good health is sufficient to eventually climb most obstacles. Higher skill is primarily for doing so quickly, stealthily, or under adverse conditions. Marginal failures indicate only delay, being unable to find appropriate hand or foot holds.

Surprised that they didn’t have knots every foot in the rope for the poor landsmen’s aid. Obviously, the Zola Fel cultists wouldn’t need it for the first ropes (just like every patriot militiaman on Breed’s Hill could shoot the eye from a squirrel at 50 yards 🙂 but surely the later troops included some with more armor than Climb.

Um, that emoji was a colon, a dash, and a close parenthesis. NOT an emoji by planning.

It seems to me to be an automated system that Zola Fel merely has friendly access to. A magic-based automated system rather than a tech-based one but an automated system all the same. So it’s ability to adjust to circumstances not foreseen by the designers is probably limited. Either the Zola Fel people are going to have to contact somebody live on board the boat or else we’re going to see that they have an ability to grant “guest privileges” when they push the right button. It’ll be interesting to see which it is.

Exciting stuff! At least, to me it very much is — it takes me right back to playing through this adventure many years ago. I’d hope that that’s not a requirement for enjoying this chapter! The framing of the last panel made a great cliffhanger or moment of suspense: what are they actually going to _find_ on this insane giant ship of the giants?
